Gerald Edwin Tanner Sr. Chesaning, Michigan Formerly of Spaulding Township Passed away Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at Union Court in Chesaning. Age 84 years. The son of the late Gertrude E. (Leach) and Cleatis C. Tanner was born August 12, 1933 in Saginaw, Michigan. He graduated from Birch Run High School, Class of 1951 and attended college. He married Mary Esther Seamon, June 26, 1953, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Saginaw. She survives him. Gerald was employed by General Motors, Saginaw Steering Gear, retiring with 36 years of service. He was an active member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish, St. Anthony Catholic Church and currently attending St. Peter Catholic Church, Chesaning. He was a member and active with the Knights of Columbus. He was a volunteer fireman in Spaulding Township for 40 years and served on the Spaulding Township Board for 20 years. Jerry enjoyed old cars and was a member of the Antique Car Club. He collected Case Tractors and Case knives. Surviving besides his wife, Mary, are his children and their spouses, Randal and Joy Tanner; Gary and Deborah Tanner; Robert Tanner; Gerald Tanner Jr. and Barbara; Mark Tanner; Christopher Tanner; Pam and Robert Rowland; his grandchildren and their spouses, Randy Tanner Jr. and Quin; Sarah and Brandon Schoch; Melissa and Scott Seamon; Mark Harding; Jennifer Rowland; Julie and Duncan Williams; Michael Tanner; Adam and Caitlyn Tanner; Josh and Tracie Tanner; Amber Tanner; Hannah Tanner; Andrea and Arthur Spaulding; his great grandchildren, Chase Schoch, John Harding, V, and Madison Harding; Dominic and Devyn Tanner; his brothers and sisters, Glen and Erma Tanner; Claude and Nellie Tanner; Larry Tanner; Lillian Ostrom; Cheryl and Dave OConnell; Pearl Ann Trever and Stephen Houle; many nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was predeceased by a brother, Frank Tanner, a daughter-in-law, Kristine Tanner; and a grandson, John Harding, IV. The funeral liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 11, 2018, at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, St. Anthony of Padua Church, 3680 S. Washington Ave. Saginaw. Rev. Thomas Schmied, O.F.M. CAP. will officiate with entombment in St. Andrew Mausoleum. Friends may call at the Church from Noon -8:00 p.m. Thursday May 10, 2018 and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral liturgy.
