Gerald J. Wellman "Jay"

Our loving father, grandfather and brother went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at the age of 86 years.

Jay was born on August 16, 1938, son of the late Charles and Marie (Giltrop) Wellman, in Bridgeport. Jay retired from Wellman Builders as a Contractor after many years of dedicated service. During his retirement years he owned and operated Uncle Jim’s Bar. Ultimately Jay would master gardening and take pride in his vegetables. His big heart would be smitten for sharing his harvest with his family and neighbors. Jay was a provider, a very caring and supportive father, who instilled good morals and hard work ethic in his children.

Jay is survived by his sons and daughters, Jerry (Mary) Wellman and Debbie (Ron) White of Birch Run, Linda Hill of Bridgeport and Patrick Wellman of Montrose; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; his brothers and sisters, Charles Wellman, Jeanette Ham, Roseann (Carl) Fritzler, Thomas (LeAndra) Wellman, Donald (Kay) Wellman, Wayne Wellman, Barbara (Jerry) Evans, Re (Dennis) Wuerfel and Bernard “Bud” Wellman, brother-in-law, Richard Bourdow; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Jay was predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Darcy Wellman, his sister, Bonnie Bourdow, sister-in-law, Donna Wellman and brother-in-law, Douglas Ham.

Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at W. L. Case and Company, 5700 Dixie Highway with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family at the Chapel on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
