Gerald Q. Eastman Merrill, Michigan Passed away Friday, May 26, 2017, at his home. Age 81 years. The son of the late Marie (Kindel) and Grant L. Eastman was born March 18, 1936 in Detroit, Michigan. He graduated from St. Mary's High School, in Saginaw. Class of 1955. He married Katherine D. (Kay) Cradit, March 5, 1960. She survives him. He served with the U.S. Navy Sea Bees in Guam and the Philippines, retiring with 27 years of service. He was then employed by General Motors, Saginaw Grey Iron, retiring in 1995 with 35 years of service. He was a member of St. John XXIII Parish, Sacred Heart Church in Merrill; He was active with the Naval Reserve and took part in the Navy Sea Cadets program. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. Surviving besides his wife, Katherine, are three sons, an adopted son and their wives, Gerald M. and April Eastman; Todd S. and Julie Eastman; Steven M. Eastman; Gerald M. Eastman Jr. and his wife, Rochelle; eight grandchildren, Brandon Eastman, Patrick Besse, Douglas Eastman, Matthew Eastman, Mark Eastman, Patrick Eastman, Jerod Eastman, Kayla Eastman; his great grandchildren who were the "apple of his eye", Christian, Connor, and Carleigh Eastman, several other great grandchildren; a brother, Gilbert R. Eastman; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandson, Joshua Eastman and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Pearl and Kenneth Cradit. The funeral liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at St. John XXIII Parish, Sacred Heart Church in Merrill. Rev. Dennis J. Kucharczyk will officiate with cremation to follow. Military honors will be provided by Hemlock-Merrill V.F.W. Post 7302. Friends may call at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Rd. from 2:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday where a Vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friends may then call at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral liturgy.
