Gerald Kenneth Carey, beloved Husband, Father, Papa and Great-grand Papa of Hemlock, Michigan, is resting in the arms of Jesus. He passed peacefully in his sleep at his home on July 17, 2020 at age 81.
Gerald was born on April 22, 1939 in Lee Township, Arkansas. He met the love of his life Kathryn Sue Johnson in 1956 and they married September 10, 1960. He proudly served in the Navy as an Electrician’s Mate aboard the USS Allagash AO-97 from 1958-1962. Gerald “Gerry” was a hard-working father and husband and retired as a manager from UPS in 1994. Gerry shared his love of horses with his family and was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association. He loved fishing, wine making, old western movies, wood working and collecting/playing guitars. He also enjoyed playing poker with his friends and family.
Gerald was a long-time member of St Peter Lutheran Church in Hemlock. He was a faithful servant of God and instilled a strong faith in his family. He was the beloved patriarch and demonstrated unconditional love. Gerry was incredibly proud of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Gerald joins in Heaven his parents Gerald Wilson and Nadine Laverne Carey; sister Kathryn Laverne Tubb. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of nearly 60 years, Kathryn Carey; his children Kim (Michael) Pretzer, Keith (Jennifer) Carey, Kristine (James) LaRose, Kevin (Renee) Carey; his eleven grandchildren Stephanie (Justin), Heather (Joshua), Morgan (Samuel), Emilie (Benjamin), Victoria (Tyler), Samantha (Jordan), Alexis, Kameron (Lucia), Breanna, Reegan and Elijah; plus four bonus grandchildren Kristin (Jeffrey), Nolan, Rustin (Rylee) and Julianne; and nine great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers William David (Diane) Carey and James Otto (Sharon) Carey, as well as many loved nieces, nephews and his ‘adopted son’ Joseph (Rebecca) Mooney.
Funeral service will take place at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2020 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 2461 N. Raucholz Road, Hemlock, Michigan. Rev. Richard E. Mundt and Rev. Edward Meyer will officiate. Military Honors will take place under the auspices of the United States Navy and VFW Post #7302. Private burial will follow at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Road, Saginaw; and from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Due to the Worldwide Health Pandemic, State guidelines will be followed, visitors are required to wear masks and follow social distancing. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider St. Peter Lutheran Church.
