Gerald “Jerry” J. Schneider of Saginaw, Michigan
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, April 25, 2025. He was 78 years old. Gerald John Schneider was born on February 8, 1947, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late John and Katherine (Peil) Schneider. He was a 1965 graduate of Arthur Hill High School. He proudly enlisted in the United States Navy serving stateside, as well as in San Deigo, California and Hawaii during the Vietnam War era. Upon his honorable discharge, he then served an additional two years with the United States Navy Reserve. Jerry met the love of his life, Penny Sue Klopf, while in high school. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on October 4, 1969; she survives him. He attended Delta College where he took multiple college courses, as well as completing his requirements to become a journeyman toolmaker. Jerry was employed with Saginaw Steering Gear as a toolmaker, retiring with over 32 years of loyal and dedicated service. He civically served his community as a fireman with the Saginaw Township Fire Department, rising to the rank of Captain. A family man at heart, he loved and cherished being a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially boating, fishing, and riding his motorcycle and tractors. A skilled and talented woodworker, he enjoyed designing and creating furniture and a “rocking Harley”. He will forever be remembered as an excellent conversationalist, for his love of watching sports on television, and for truly living an amazing life filled with many beautiful memories and stories.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Penny S. Schneider of Saginaw; two sons: Daniel (Laurie Cribbins) Schneider of Birch Run; Christopher Schneider of Saginaw; three grandchildren: Andrew John Schneider of Saginaw; Haley Connors of Birch Run; Forrest Connors of San Diego, CA; three great-grandchildren: Lincoln, Layla, and Dean Connors; a sister-in-law, Linda (Jack) Ellis of Saginaw; a niece and two nephews: Andrew (Sarah) Ellis of Howell; Nicholas Ellis of Saginaw; Diane LeFever of Saginaw. Also surviving are countless extended family members and dear friends too numerous to mention but held closely to his heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Katherine Schneider; a sister, Nancy (Don) Pockrandt; and a nephew, William “Bill” Whalen.
