Gertrude E. Burns (Gertie) Saginaw, Michigan Passed away Thursday, April 18, 2019, at HealthSource Saginaw. Age 95 years. The daughter of the late Florence Edna (Shattuck) and Charles G. Miller was born February 19, 1924 in Saginaw, Michigan. She was dearly loved by her faithful nieces, Diane Ruemmler, Linda (Jack) Miller and Mary Jo Miller. Gertie wanted to give a special thank you to her devoted friends, Jill (Quinn) Hickey and their children, Haley and Austin, and to Laura (Marty) Kempf, whose loving care was nothing short of amazing. Gertie was retired from long employment at Michigan National Bank and volunteered many hours at St. Lukes Hospital (Covenant) and the Saginaw Animal Shelter. She and her loving husband, Bill, enjoyed great times with the Shriners on behalf of the Shriners Hospitals for Children. Gertie was a life member of the Daughters of the Nile. She was predeceased by her husband, Bill, and her son, Bill and is survived by her successful granddaughters, Lisa, Sarah, Rebecca and Kate. Her ten great grandchildren and Polly her little puppy. Gertie was a robust redhead who lived by the strongest principles and always found the best qualities in other people. Most importantly, even in the face of disappointments, Gertie kept her heart and door wide open. With a twinkle in her eye, a heartwarming smile and a dose of old fashioned humor, Gertie Burns inspired all who knew her. The funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2019, at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. Rev. Bill Bodnar will officiate with entombment in Oakwood Mausoleum. Friends may call at the chapel from 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 6, 2019, until the time of the funeral service.
