Crooks, Gilbert O. Merrill, Michigan
Passed away peacefully on Saturday August 3, 2019 at Woodland Hospice House at the age of 86 years. Gilbert was born on April 20, 1933 to the late Wesley and Helen (Brugmann) Crooks in Wyandotte, Michigan. He was a graduate of Theodore Roosevelt High School, class of 1952. Gilbert later married Laurie McClintic on June 23, 1979, they shared 40 wonderful years together.
Gilbert served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. He was known for being an outdoorsman. Gilbert loved to hunt and fish and could fix just about anything. Above all, Gilbert was known for being a great dad.
He is survived by his wife Laurie, his children Karen Stricter, Sherri Mainwaring, and his five step children Debbie Mansfield, Wendy (Bill) Oliver, Rene (Ted) Haddad, Les (Lynne) Shearer and Corrinne (David Hames) Shearer. Gilbert is also survived by his grandchildren Danny Black, Emily Stricter, Adam Stricter, Carlie Haddad, Theo Haddad, Zach Haddad, Trevor Oliver, Taylor Oliver, Jenna Rugg, Courtney Keegan, Mitch Shearer and Rick Shearer. Also surviving are his brother and sister, Lee (Alice) Crooks, and Jeannie (Rich) Clayton and his sister- in- law Gail Crooks.
Gilbert is preceded in death by his daughter Debbie Lubham, granddaughter Jennifer Lubham and his brother Dick Crooks.
A memorial service will take place at 1:00 pm on Sunday September 1, 2019 at W.L. Case and Company, 125 E. Saginaw Road, Merrill. Deacon Librado "Larry" Gayton will officiate. Burial will follow service at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 12:00 pm until the time of the service on Sunday September 1.
