Passed away on Friday, March 3, 2017 at the age of 98 years. The son of the late Gerald E. and Alice C. (Kehoe) Spyker was born on August 21, 1918 in Midland, Michigan. He served in the US Army during WWII. He married Catherine Elizabeth Baldauf on August 6, 1949 at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church where they were lifelong members. Gilbert worked for Dow Chemical Company and retired in 1982 with 40 years of service. He was a member of the Saginaw Farm Bureau, VFW Post #1566, D.A.V. #4, He was in the Pacific Islands, injured in Battle in New Georgia Island and was released from the Kansas Winters General Hospital in 1944. He received the Military Order of the Purple Heart. Gilbert enjoyed fishing, hunting and especially his garden. Surviving are his wife, Catherine; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Howard Spyker and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at W.L. Case and Company, 201 North Miller Road. Rev. Carl Otto will officiate with burial at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00-8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
