Gilbert Ruiz

Ruiz, Gilbert Saginaw, Mi Gilbert passed away Friday, December 14, 2012 at home at the age of 86 years. Gilbert was born September 1, 1926, in Temple, Texas, the son of the late Luis and Abelina (Sanchez) Ruiz. He married Valentina Estrada on July 29, 1973. She predeceased him June 29, 2009. He was a very active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He retired from Malleable Iron after 43 years of service. He served with the U. S. Army during the Korean War. Gilbert was an avid fisherman and enjoyed teaching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren how to fish. Surviving are his children, Yolanda (Daniel) Ortega and her family; Laura Ruiz and her family; Cynthia Garza and her family; Raymond Ruiz and his family; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a special sister, Shirley Gomez; many half brothers and sisters. He was predeceased by a son, David Ruiz. The family would like to thank the Doctors and staff at St. Mary's hospital. Funeral service took place at Joseph Catholic Church Rev. Joseph Schabel officiated with burial in Mt Olivet Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider St. Joseph Catholic Church.
