Whelton, Gladys Emma Freeland, MI Gladys went peacefully to be with her Lord on Monday, September 17, 2018. She was born on November 20, 1924 to Erwin and Lorna Schmidt in Bay City, Michigan. They moved to Saginaw and she was confirmed at Holy Cross Lutheran Church and she graduated from Saginaw Arthur Hill High School. When she met the love of her life, Eugene Whelton, they were married at Holy Cross on August 5, 1945. They were married 72 years and raised two sons, Gregory and Grant. Gladys was an active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Hemlock her entire adult life. She was active in the Mary Martha Society, the Altar Guild, and the Christmas Baskets. She loved working at the Annual Chicken Dinner and the Annual Fish Fry. She loved her home on Dice Road that she and Gene built together. Her hobbies were gardening, playing cards and keeping in touch with her friends. Gladys is survived by her son Greg and wife Lisa (Sheboygan, WI); her daughter-in-law Jody Whelton (Freeland) and seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband Gene; her son, Grant; brother Wesley (Elaine) Schmidt; sister Marge (Tyrone) Ritter; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law Gerald (Dorothy) Whelton; Kenneth Whelton and her grandson Jared Whelton. Funeral service will take place at 1 pm on Sunday, September 23, 2018 at W L Case Funeral Home, 201 N Miller Road, Saginaw. Rev. Dr. William L Morris will officiate. A time of visitation for friends and family will be held from 12 noon until the time of the service.
