Gladys Marion Stark Oak Park, Illinois Formerly of Saginaw Beloved wife of the late Robert Stark and beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother, passed away Saturday, Nov. 19, in Oak Park, Illinois. Gladys was born to Nathan and Pepe Beck in 1921 in Hungary. She came to the United States with her parents and older siblings in 1922. The family lived in Cheboygan and Bay City, where Gladys graduated from Bay City Central High School. After high school graduation, Gladys attended Grace Hospital School of Nursing in Detroit, where she graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1943. Also in 1943, Gladys and Robert married. Gladys then served as a nurse throughout the southern and southwestern United States, near the Army bases where Robert was stationed during WWII. Following WWII, Gladys and Robert returned to Saginaw, where Robert had been born and raised. Gladys and Robert had three sons: John (Lynne), Ben (Carol), and Peter (Kris). Gladys continued to work as a nurse while raising her children. She worked for many years at Saginaw General Hospital, and following that she finished her nursing career as a Saginaw County public health nurse, working there for 20 years. Following her retirement, Gladys joined a quilting group in Saginaw, and greatly enjoyed her years of quilting and the many friends that she made while quilting. Gladys moved to Ann Arbor in 1993, where she resumed her lifelong passion of painting. Gladys' paintings and quilts are treasured gifts by which her family will fondly remember her. Gladys moved to Oak Park, Illinois, in 2000, where she resided until her death.
