Mahler, Gordon W. Saginaw, Michigan Passed away Friday, November 8, 2013, at Covenant Cooper. Age 78 years. He was born November 28, 1934, in Fulton Township, Gratiot County, Michigan, the son of the late Floy Elsie (Perdew) and William Cordon Mahler. He served with the US Army Reserves for 8 years. In his early years, he had been employed by General Motors. He later owned and also managed service stations for about 15 years, drove school bus for St. Charles Public Schools for about 15 years, and worked at Butler Telecom for nearly 10 years. He retired from Hoerger's Auto Sales in St. Charles. He was a member of the St. Charles Jaycees for many years. He had formerly been a member of Hope Ev. Lutheran Church in St. Charles. He was an avid woodworker, enjoyed camping, fishing, and loved his cats, Tom, Myrtle, and Lucky. He married Mary (Lane) Proux on June 23, 2001; she survives him. He also leaves three sons, one daughter and their spouses, William and Paula Mahler, Burton, MI; Michael and Cindy Mahler, Fort Wayne, IN; Rick and Linda Mahler, Sturgis, MI; Teresa and Albert Aiken, Saginaw; a stepson, Jason and Amanda Proux, San Antonio, TX; 17 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren due shortly; 6 great-great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Nina Fern and Robert Guild; four sisters-in-law, Jean Mahler, Linda Carnal, Diana Niemeyer (Victor Whipple), and Shirleeson Thomas; two brothers-in-law, Rick Lane and Walter Pagel Jr.; many nieces, nephews, and their families. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by one brother, John Frederick Mahler, his first wife, Ellajean Sherman Mahler, mother-in-law, Joyce Schwalm Lane, and by two brothers-in-law, Howard Harmon and Anthony Carnal. Cremation has taken place. A "Celebration of His Life" will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 3, 2014, at the American Legion Post #439 Hall, 5190 Weiss Road, where his family will receive friends from 1:00 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Pastor Chuck Vizthum, from Whole Life Christian Fellowship in Sturgis, Michigan, will officiate.
