Beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away Sunday, October 1, 2023 after a brief stay at Ascension St. Mary’s hospital.

Greg was born October 26, 1949 to the late Larry and Alice (Rohde) Wenzel. He was a proud 1967 graduate of Breckenridge High School. After high school, he joined the United States Army and was deployed to Vietnam. Greg was honorably discharged as a decorated veteran having received a Purple Heart. In 1969, he married the love of his life, Cindy Coppens. They went on to have two daughters. Greg was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was proud member of the country band Southern Comfort for many years, where he sang, played guitar and fiddle.

Left to cherish Greg’s memory are his wife Cindy Wenzel; two daughters: Shannon (Dan) Barnum of Merrill and Misty (Dan) Wenzel of Midland; five grandchildren: Megan Gilbert, Amber Barnum, Samantha (Brandon) Gilbert, Daniel Barnum and Beau Gilbert; two brothers-in-law: Ken (Ruth) Coppens and Gary ( Cheryl) Coppens; a sister-in-law: Patricia Watson and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Daniel Wenzel, sister Vicky Wenzel, father and mother-in-law: John and Josephine Coppens, brother and sister-in-law John and Greta Coppens, and brother-in-law Ronald Watson.

A Funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at W. L. Case and Company, 125 E. Saginaw Street, Merrill. Rev. Rob Richards will officiate. Military Honors and burial will take place at Lakefield Township Cemetery under the auspices of the United States Army and VFW Post 7302.
