Our loving father and grandfather passed away on Monday, June 28, 2021. Age 89 years.
Harlan was born on July 27, 1931, son of the late Delilah (Gesche) and Joseph DeShone, in Saginaw. He married Dorothy Ann DeBeau on March 1, 1969. She predeceased him on July 9, 2006. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a former commander and member of the Hemlock/Merrill V.F.W. Post #7302, American Legion Post #295 and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 497. Harlan retired from Dow Chemical in 1989 following many years of dedicated service. Harlan also retired from the Jonesfield-Lakefield Fire Department. He enjoyed driving for Mitchell Motorcoach of Bay City, driving the kids to Florida for Spring Break and for Kenny Brothers. Harlan had been past proprietor of The Village Inn, which is now known as Woody’s. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, reading, spending time with his family and socializing. His ability to make people laugh and brighten anyone’s day will be missed.
Surviving are his children, Kevin (Karen) DeShone, Debra DeShone and David (Jill) DeShone; grandchildren, Ayden and Colten DeShone; sister, Lila (Tom) Weaver; sisters-in-law, Danna DeShone and Mary DeBeau. He was predeceased by his brother, Arthur DeShone, brothers-in-law, Bernard DeBeau and Ken Roggow and sister-in-law, Mary Kay Roggow.
Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 2, 2021 at St. John XXIII Parish, Sacred Heart Church, 419 S. Midland Road, Merrill. Fr. Michael F. Steltenkamp, S.J. will officiate. Military honors will be presented under the auspices of the Hemlock/Merrill V.F.W. Post #7302. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, July 1, 2021 from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at W. L.
