Our beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather peacefully passed away at home with his family on Sunday, March 31, 2024 following a valiant two year struggle with lung cancer, at the age of 87. Harold, the son of the late Harold Sr. and Eleanor (Hastings) Moldenhauer, was born on March 12, 1937, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He graduated from Saginaw High School with the Class of 1955. Harold earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from General Motors Institute (GMI) in 1959. He began his career in 1960 at General Motors (GM), as a Junior Product Engineer and retired as an Operations Superintendent after 37 years. He is also a United States Army veteran. Harold met the love of his life, Carole Ann Pinkerton, in high school and the couple would marry on August 15, 1959, spending more than 64 years of marriage together. Carole preceded Harold in death on October 20, 2023. Harold was a member of First Presbyterian Church for many years serving as an Elder. He was one of the founding members of the Presbytery Investment and Endowment Committee and a member of the Finance and Budget Committee. Harold enjoyed fishing, golfing, and playing cards. He found solace and joy in big band and easy listening music. Harold also loved traveling abroad with Carole. They spent many summers at the family’s cottage in East Tawas, Michigan. Above all, Harold cherished the time spent with his family.
Left to cherish his memory are two daughters, a son, and their spouses, Debra (Thomas) Okray, Michael (Tammy) Moldenhauer, Amy (James) Ward; grandchildren Kira (Ivan) Zepeda, Jeffrey Okray, Ryan (Tiffany) Mack, Anthony (Mylee) Mack, Scott Moldenhauer; and six great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. Harold was preceded in death by his brother, Gary (Rose) Moldenhauer.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Heartland Hospice for their kind and compassionate care of Harold and the family.
A funeral service celebrating Harold’s life will take place at 12:00pm on Monday, April 8th, 2024, at First Presbyterian Church, 121 S. Harrison St., Saginaw, MI 48602 with Rev. Ted McCulloch presiding. Visitation will take place at the church from 10:00am until the time of service, with private entombment at Oakwood Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers those wanting to make an expression of their sympathy may wish to consider a memorial contribution to Heartland Hospice, 1320 Waldo Ave., Ste 300, Midland, Michigan 48642, Attn: Jennifer.
