Hazen Cyler Plonta of Hemlock, Michigan
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side on Wednesday, March 15, 2023. He was 97 years old. Hazen Cyler Plonta was born on November 11, 1925, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Lawrence and Marie (Gabriel) Plonta. He proudly served his country by enlisting in the United States Navy, serving during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Upon his return, Hazen met the love of his life, Jean A. Gettel, while attending a dance in Michigan's thumb. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on March 1, 1947, in Kilmanagh, Michigan; she survives him. Hazen worked as an engineer for C&O Railroad, retiring with over 37 years of loyal and dedicated service. Throughout his life, Hazen enjoyed spending time golfing. Above all he treasured and cherished the times he was able to spend with family creating a lifetime of lasting memories.
Surviving are his wife of 76 years, Jean A. Plonta of Hemlock; a son and two daughters: Terry Plonta of Steamboat Springs, CO; Cheryl Plonta of Hemlock; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Marie (Dennis) Wildfong. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nanette Sue Harvell; four brothers: Wallace (June) Plonta, Dwane Plonta, Donald Plonta, and Dean Plonta.
