Rindhage, Herman Robert Saginaw, MI Passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family and loved ones on Friday, February 14, 2014, at the age of 94 after a brief illness. Herman was born April 15, 1919, in Saginaw the youngest child of the late Henry and Anna (Opitz) Rindhage. He married Antoinette Kelley on August 16, 1947; she predeceased him on February 1, 1980. He was a proud veteran having served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Pacific Theater. He worked for Riverside Park and drove a horse and wagon milk truck for Saginaw Dairy. He also worked for Muller Bakery, Frito Lay, Inc. and Bridgeport Lumber. For the past 28 years he has volunteered and been employed by the Historical Society of Saginaw County at the Castle Museum. It was his passion and mission to pass on his knowledge of Saginaw and the surrounding area. He was a life-long Detroit Tigers fan. He also enjoyed photography, golf, and spending time with his family. Herman was a member and past president of Bridgeport Lions Club; Past president of the Washington Society, Member of Saginaw Valley Air Museum, Saginaw Valley Antique Society, V.F.W. Post # 1566 and American Legion Post #439, guest speaker for Humanities Series through S.V.S.U, Board of Directors for "Senior Olympics", Board of Directors for the Bridgeport Historical Society. He was an original member of the Saginaw Voyageurs, a living history re-enactment group, from 1986-1997. He was an active member of Second Presbyterian Church for over 50 years. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Nancy (Rick) Thornburgh, Karen Pococke, Sharon (Greg) Cox, Robert Rindhage Sr.; daughter-in-law, Debi Rindhage; grandchildren, Melissa Fobear and Stacy Makris, Eric Thornburgh, Todd Pococke and Andrea Geller, Michael (Jennifer) Flora, Thomas (Heather) Flora, Steven (Alisha) Cox, Greg (Sarah) Cox, Avery (Susan) Cox, Robert Rindhage Jr., Karissa (Neil) Schultz; 14 great-grandchildren; and loving companion Helen Pigeault. He was predeceased by his siblings, Frank, Alfred, Henry and Fritz "Fred" Rindhage; Emma Martuch; and son-in-law, Steven Pococke. The family would like to thank the Visiting Nurse Association for the wonderful care they provided to Herman. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at Second Presbyterian Church 2665 Midland Rd. Rev. James Neumann will officiate with burial to follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens under the auspices of VFW Post #1566. Friends may visit with the family at W.L. Case & Company 4480 Mackinaw Rd. on Monday from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 2:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
