Hugo E. "Ted" Braun, Jr. passed away February 8, 2017, after a brief illness at the age of 84. He was born on March 18, 1932, in Saginaw, Michigan, and was married for 62 years to the former Ruth A. Paetz, who survives him. He was the father of Hugo III, Michael, and Lucy, and grandfather "Opa" to many loving grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Rhoda Moore, of Oakland, California. In addition to being a lifelong resident of Saginaw, he cherished time spent with family at Higgins Lake. He was a graduate of Arthur Hill High School, Yale University, and the University of Michigan Law School.
In his law practice of 57 years at the firm of Braun Kendrick, and throughout his life, Ted acted with wisdom and integrity, kindness and compassion. He was very active in charitable and civic organizations. He was President of the Harvey Randall Wickes Foundation and served as President/Board Chairman of many other organizations, including Saginaw Valley State University, United Way of Saginaw County, Saginaw Community Foundation, Saginaw General Hospital, and more than 300 exempt organizations, including hospitals and health care organizations. He was also Director of Wolohan Lumber Co. and Citizens Banking Corp. Ted received numerous awards, including an honorary Doctor of Laws Degree from Saginaw Valley State University, Lifetime Community Service Award from Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce, Spirit of Philanthropy Award from Saginaw Community Foundation, and United Way Outstanding Community Volunteer Award.
To celebrate his life, an open house will be held at the Saginaw Club, 219 N.
