Ignacio R. Guerrero

Ignacio R. Guerrero 6/22/1929 3/15/2015 Saginaw, Michigan Beloved Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and Brother died suddenly on March 15, 2015. He was 85 years old, born on June 22, 1929 to the late Marcos and Benita (Rodriguez) Guerrero in Uvalde, Texas. He served in the Texas National Guard. He married Mercedes Escareno in 1951 in Luling, TX. She predeceased him January 29, 2012. After moving to Saginaw, he worked for GM Central Foundry Saginaw Malleable Iron for 34 years, retiring in 1984, and was a member of United Auto Workers Local 455. He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church where he served as an usher for over 39 years. Ignacio and Mercedes together provided a loving home for their children, grandsons and great grandchildren; they were his greatest pleasure and source of pride. He enjoyed many casino trips with Mercedes and they both loved growing a large garden, which grew larger every year. He loved spending time outdoors and enjoyed hunting, woodworking and tinkering in his pole barn; he could fix anything. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to family, friends and neighbors. Left to cherish his memory are his two daughters, Rosa Ayala and Lucia Chapa of Saginaw, MI; four grandsons, Ricardo Chapa, Antonio Ayala, Emilio Guerrero and Mario Guerrero; eight great grandchildren, Olivia and Marcelino Chapa, Nicolas, Matthew and Lyra Guerrero, Elisabeth, Madison and Emma Ayala. Also surviving are his siblings, Margarita Quintero, Eligio Guerrero and Juan Guerrero of Austin, TX. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mercedes; son Nacho Guerrero; sisters Jesusita Guerrero, Maria Jimenez and Chonita Jimenez. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 20, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 3680 S. Washington. Ignacio will lie in state at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass. Fr. Thomas Schmied, OFM, Cap., will officiate with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Saginaw.
