Jack Lowell Gregus

Jack L. Gregus of Saginaw Township Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend passed away peacefully on Friday, June 21, 2019, at the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center - Palliative Care Unit. He was 83 years old. Jack Lowell Gregus was born on January 14, 1936, in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Rudolph and Marvel (DeSonia) Gregus. He was a proud 1954 graduate of Ss. Peter & Paul High School. Throughout high school, Jack worked for Western Union and continued to work there as a teletype operator. Jack then honorably served his country by enlisting in the United States Army, serving in Germany. He married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Dale Chiarovano on October 1, 1955, in Saginaw at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church; she survives him. Jack worked at General Motors for 30 years, retiring in 1989 as a general foreman. He was of the Catholic Faith and a member of the American Legion Post #439, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Knights of Columbus Council #4232, Pulaski Hall, and the Bridgeport Gun Club. Jack was an avid outdoors man and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed golfing and bowling. Jack was a longtime boater and served as treasurer of the Au Gres Yacht Club. Above all, he loved traveling with his wife, Dale. Together they sailed on many cruises and traveled to Rio de Janeiro to see Halleys Comet. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Dale Gregus of Saginaw Township; son, Mike Gregus of Saginaw Township; daughter, Renee (Mitch) Wood of Lansing; four grandchildren: Aaron Wood of Lansing; Graham Wood of Lansing; Casey (Lorato) Wood of South Africa; Lydia Wood of Australia; a great-grandson, Lefa Wood of South Africa; four siblings: Joseph (Judy) Gregus of Franklin, TN; James (Sharon) Gregus of Presque Isle; Mary Gregus and her husband, Paul Baxter of Saginaw Township; Mike (Jennifer) Gregus of Macomb; and a brother-in-law, John Hoffman of Kochville. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Hoffman, and an infant brother, Billy Gregus. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25, 2019, at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. Rev. Fr. Steve Gavit will officiate. Military Honors will follow under the auspices of the United States Army and American Legion Post #439. Honoring Jacks wishes cremation has taken place. Friends are welcome to visit the family at the funeral chapel on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Dominic Parish or the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center - Palliative Care Unit.
