Ross, Jacob Saginaw, Michigan Went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at home surrounded by his family at the age of 96 years. The son of the late Heinrich and Magdalena (Brouchler) Ross was born on June 9, 1917 in Sekitch, Yugoslavia the youngest of 6 children. Jacob apprenticed for a blacksmith for several years in Sekitch. He served in the German Army in 1942 until the end of WWII. He married Katharina Egertz on January 27, 1951; she survives him. He came to America with Katharina and their daughter in 1952; sponsored by a farm in Maryland, where he worked on the farm for a year, then went to work in Wilmot, Arkansas where his brother, Heinrich was with his family. Jacob stayed there with his wife and daughter Magdalena, through the birth of his son Jacob, Jr. from 1953 through 1957. Then Jacob and his family came to Michigan in search of automotive industry work. He retired from Steering Gear in 1981 after 23 years of service. Jacob enjoyed farming land and animals, raising cows, goats, chickens and rabbits, and when he became bored with retirement, he purchased land and remolded a farmhouse at the age of 69 and became a gentleman farmer tending to his fields, cows and chickens for 20 years. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church since 1973 where he served as usher and many other duties. He also was a member of the GBU Club since 1965 and served as Vice President and President for many years. Jacob was a social butterfly and was a "parent" and Opa to many, he enjoyed dancing and parties and bowling and was an avid Saginaw Spirit hockey fan. Surviving besides his wife of 62 years, Katharina, are their children: Magdalena (Richard) Laramy of Merrill, MI, Jacob "Jack" (Sue) Ross, Jr. of Hemlock, MI, Linda (Denny) Thiel of Saginaw, MI, grandchildren: Amy (Tom) Rumpel, Tim Ross, Adam Ross, Sarah Ross, Melissa Thiel, John Laramy, Rick Laramy, great-grandchildren: Korey Rumpel, Emily Rumpel, Katelyn Thiel. He was predeceased by a grandson, Ryan Thiel, and his five siblings. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at Christ Lutheran Church, 8795 Ederer Rd., Rev. Wade Johnston will officiate with burial Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit with the family on Monday at W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Rd. from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday, at church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
