James. A Kokas was born on Dec 29, 1932 in Avoros, Greece to Alexios and Gianitsa (Siolas) Kokaliaris. He traveled and entered the US via Ellis Island in 1950. He married Mary Demetrakopoulos on Oct 30, 1955. James was a veteran serving in the US army from 1951-1953. James was self employed, owning multiple businesses including the Liberty Bar, Holiday Party Store and Alexander’s Lounge which he retired from in 1994. He was a member of St Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church and served on the board including one term as president. He was a member of the Order of Ahepa where he served as district governor from 1984-1985 and received numerous meritorious service awards. He was also a life long member of the Masons, Lodge #077. James was a sports enthusiast and an avid golfer. In nice weather ( and in not so nice weather) you would find him on the golf course practicing to perfect the latest and greatest in golf technology.
James is survived by his wife Mary Kokas of Saginaw; children Dr. Alexander Kokas of Athens, Greece; James and Kathleen Kokas of Joliet Illinois, Jan L. Kokas and her partner Patricia Eckart of Saginaw and one grandson, James Paul Kokas and his fiancé Elise VanHout of Joliet, IL.
James was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Paul Kokas and sister, Georgia Kolokythas, both of Illinois. He is survived by four sisters and one brother.

Funeral service for James will take place at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, June 3rd, 2022, at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 4970 Mackinaw Rd. Saginaw, Father Timothy Cook presiding. Burial is to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Thursday, June 2nd at W.L. Case & Company, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. from 4:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M., with a Trisagion service at 7:30 P.M. In lieu of flowers the family is asking you to consider donations to Toni and Trish House of Auburn, St. Jude Children's Hospital and St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church of Saginaw.
