Our loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother went home to the Lord on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at the age of 71. James was born April 28, 1942, in Saginaw to the late James and Caroline (Leipold) Markey. He served in the U.S. Army. James married Carol Hack on October 16, 1982; she survives him. He worked for Bourdow Trucking and then retired from Stone Transport. In his retirement he worked part-time for Avis Rent-a-Car. He was a member of American Legion Post #439 and St. John Vianney Catholic Church. He loved spending time with his family and friends, traveling, and playing Euchre. He was an avid Michigan State University fan. James was considerate to others and a happy optimist with an infectious laugh. He will be missed by all that loved him. He is survived by his wife Carol; children, James (Elita) Markey, Timothy (Ruth) Markey, Karen (James) Muntean, Tammy (Robert) Braun, Vicki (Roderick) Washington, Lorie Williams; 13 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson; siblings, Mary (Richard) Bell, Michael (Sally) Markey, Patricia (Christopher) Picard; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents-in-law, Frank and Helen Hack. Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church 6400 McCarty Road. Fr. Bill Rutkowski will officiate. Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at W.L. Case & Company 4480 Mackinaw Rd. where the American Legion will honor him with a walk-through at 6:00 p.m. Friends may also gather at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the family.
