James H. Drinan

Passed away Monday, May 16, 2016 at Covenant Cooper Hospital. He was 82 years of age. James H. Drinan was born December 14, 1933, in Saginaw to the late Francis M. and Helen (Barrett) Drinan. A 1951 graduate of St. Andrews High School, he attended the University of Detroit, graduating in 1959, where he was the captain of the tennis team. He served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955, attaining the rank of corporal as a tank commander in the 4th Armored Division. Jim married Dixie Ann Friedli on April 28, 1962. She predeceased him on February 25, 2013. Starting in 1960, Jim commenced a 37-year career at Yeo & Yeo. He earned his CPA license in 1962 and became a partner in 1965. From 1985 until 1993, he served as managing partner. Jim retired from the firm in 1997. Jim was a member of many clubs and volunteer organizations. He served as President on the boards of Catholic Family Services, St. Mary's Advisory Board, St. Francis Home (over 20 years), and the first Saginaw County Commission on Aging Board (which he helped organize), the Bay City Country Club, the Saginaw Club, and the Serra Club. Jim was an adjunct professor at Delta College and was the first accounting instructor at the business school at Saginaw Valley State University. Jim is survived by his children, Jennifer Drinan and Thomas (Lori Weir) Drinan; his grandchildren, MacKenzie and Thomas James (TJ) Drinan; his brother, Frank Drinan; his brother-in-law, Thomas Friedli; and many nieces, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Jim also leaves a close childhood friend, Al Mooney. He will be missed greatly by his family, friends, and favorite dog, Ellie. Funeral Liturgy will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 20, 2016 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 5376 State St., Saginaw. Rev. Richard Bokinskie will officiate. Friends may call at the W. L. Case Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road, from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and at the Church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the liturgy. A luncheon reception will be held following the service.
