James Robert Holt, age 77, of East Tawas, Michigan, passed away on Wednesday March 5th, 2025, at Covenant Harrison Hospital in Saginaw, Michigan.

He was born May 7th, 1947, in Saginaw, Michigan, the son of late Elton JC Holt and Betty J (Leach-Holt) Robishaw. He grew up in Burt, Michigan, moving to Saginaw, Michigan, during his middle school years. He attended Webber Junior High and Arthur Hill Tech High School. James was drafted into the Vietnam War on May 14th, 1968, and proudly served 18 months in the 44th Artillery Battalion of the U.S. Army. On June 19th, 1971, he was married to Linda L Shaw in Saginaw, Michigan, and they enjoyed over 53 years together. James worked as a Millwright for General Motors at the Malleable Iron Plant in Saginaw, Michigan, for 43 years before his retirement. James was a very faithful and active member of the Tawas New Hope Church, and an active member of the Friends Together Tawas Cancer Support Group. James was also a former longtime member of the United Commercial Travelers, serving as their President for two terms. In his spare time, he enjoyed being outside, gardening, hunting, fishing, listening to music, watching movies, thrifting, and collecting Star Wars. Most of all though, his favorite time was spent cruising and making memories with his family.

James is survived by his wife Linda Holt of East Tawas, Michigan; Siblings, Timothy Robishaw of Saginaw, Michigan, Gary (Christine) Robishaw of Freeland, Michigan; his three children and their spouses, Shauna (Justin) McCommon of Hemlock, Michigan, Stephanie (Daniel) Dennings of Saint Charles, Michigan, and Christopher (Nicole) Holt of Saint Charles Michigan; Six Grandchildren, Stephan Holt of Tawas, Michigan, Kyle McCommon of Aurora, Colorado, Jacob McCommon of Hemlock, Michigan, Noah Tyra of Saint Charles, Michigan, Daniel J Dennings of Saint Charles, Michigan, and Sierrah McCommon of Hemlock, Michigan; one Great Grandchild, Parker Holt; as well as numerous In-Laws, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Friends.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his Step-Father, Robert Robishaw; two Sisters, Jeanette Robishaw, and Sharon (Holt) Schwarz; Brother-in-Law, William Schwarz; Nieces, Kelly (Zieroff) McCollum and Chantel Bird.

Honoring James’ wishes, a cremation has taken place. A private service will be held May 7, 2025, for immediate family at the Great Lakes National Cemetery. A celebration of life gathering will be held at a later date for friends and family in the Tawas area. Memorial contributions in honor of James can be made to Friends Together Tawas Cancer Support Group – 105 Prentiss Street., Alpena MI 49707.
