Passed away suddenly at his home on Sunday, September 4, 2016, age 80 years. He was born on December 22, 1935, son of the late Leo and Margaret (Loeffelbein) Hollenback, in Albee Township. James married Loretta Helfrecht on June 22, 1957, she predeceased him on December 17, 1992. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Hemlock. James retired from Saginaw Steering Gear in 1993 after many years of service and was a member of the U.A.W. Local #699. He had been a volunteer for the Tri-Township Fire Department. He enjoyed fishing, boating, camping and playing pool at the Young At Heart Club in Chesaning. James loved spending time with his loving grandchildren and family.
Surviving are his children, Sherry (Brian) Hales of Saginaw, Kathleen (Scott) Spica of Midland and Andrew Hollenback of St. Charles, his grandchildren, Sarah and Kristina Hales, Trista and Tye Hollenback and Scott E. Spica; his greatgrandchildren, Grace Hollenback and James Stanuszek; his sisters and brothers, Iris (Calvin) Calhoun and Betty Thomas, Roger (Betty) Hollenback and Jerry (Diane) Hollenback; his brothers-in-law, Arthur "Butch" Helfrecht, Jr. and Fred Thomas; also many nieces, nephews and friends, including his companion, Joann Mayne. He was predeceased by his sisters and their spouses, Marie Hollenback, Arlene (Ken) Theile and Delores (Mike) Varacka and his sister-in-law, Betty Hawes.
Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at W. L. Case and Company, 201 N. Miller Road. Rev. Dr. William L. Morris will officiate with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the Tri-Township Fire Department.
