Jim Maddox, age 81 (20-1/4 if you asked him), loving father, step-father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at his home. Jim was born on February 29, 1944 (leap year), the son of the late Dwight “Pinky” Maddox and Joan (Edwards) Maddox.

Jim was a lifelong sports enthusiast who enjoyed watching all sports, especially the Detroit Lions (who did not win the Super Bowl before he died), Detroit Tigers, Detroit Pistons and all things University of Michigan. Jim was a fierce competitor who enjoyed many years of playing baseball, softball, basketball and football. He was a proud inductee into the USFTL Amateur Football Hall of Fame in 2001.

Jim and his wife Amy loved spending time on their deck sipping a Miller Lite. Jim also loved spending time with family and taking walks. Jim and Amy enjoyed meeting and welcoming people at the bars they owned: The Corner Lounge in Pinconning, Whittemore Hotel in Whittemore, and Benchwarmers in Hemlock.

Jim leaves behind his loving children Dawn Maddox (Matt Welsh), Brett Maddox, and Nicole (Chuck) Rossio; loving step-children Pam (John) Wilson, Kathy (Don) Williams, Lori (Kevin) Rathburn; twelve grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, sisters Linda (Leonard) Doran, Susan (Jerry) Lich, several nieces and nephews, and his beloved cats Bella and Lola. Jim was preceded in death by his wife Amy, his parents, brother Larry and sisters Darlene and Judy.

Per Jim’s wishes, cremation has taken place with a private celebration honoring his life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Shriners Hospital or Saginaw County Animal Care & Control.
