Passed away peacefully at Shields Comfort Care on July 14, 2016 at the age of 94 years. Jim was born on March 23, 1922 in Saginaw, MI to the late Harwood J. and Catharine (Malcolm) Gilbert. He married his loving wife, Marilyn R. (Stipe) Gilbert; she predeceased him in 1975. He later married Marcia McLurg; she predeceased him in 2006. James served his country as a seaman with the Merchant Marines. He was a lifetime member of the Ironworkers, a Mason in good standing with the Bowring Lodge, and was a resident at Alma Michigan Masonic Home. He was also a lifetime member of the Southern Arizona Model Engineers and enjoyed making his owl model steam engine. He loved silhouette shooting and reloading with his Tuscon shooting friends. Jim and Mary loved sailing in the Northern Channel and world traveling. Jims greatest passion was his love for all his dogs. His most recent dog, Casey was a true companion. Surviving him is his daughter: Catharine (Bruce) Horn of Alma and Lake City, MI; his daughter-in-law Lynne Gilbert of Hemlock, MI; grandchildren Mary (Adam) Scripps, Andrew Horn, and Heather Gilbert; and great-grandchildren Noah, Owen and Anna Scripps, and his second wifes children and grandchildren. He was also predeceased by his sister, Ann (Gilbert) Williams and son at Harwood Lee Gilbert. In accordance with James wishes no public service will take place. A private family celebration of his life will take place at a later date. Case and Company.
