Went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 14, 2017, after a three and a half year battle with MDS, at the age of 76 years. Jim was born February 4, 1941, in Hundred, West Virginia the son of the late Guy and Inez (Sleeth) Hostutler. He graduated from Spencer High School of West Virginia in 1958. At the age of 17 he joined the U.S. Marine Corps where he served our country for four years. After his honorable discharge from the Marines, he went on to work for his Uncle Ken and Aunt Margaret Hostutler who owned Osceola Pipeline in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. Jim worked for them from 1964-1968. He then joined the Michigan State Police. He was Lieutenant and retired in 1991 as Assistant Post Commander in Northville, MI. Jim enjoyed traveling, golfing, playing cards, singing country songs, driving a charter bus for Blue Lakes and Rosa Motor Coach, and most of all being with his grandchildren. Jim never met a stranger. He had a big love for people especially his wife, Jane, who survives him. Jim and Jane were married on March 22, 1991. Besides his wife he is survived by his children, Brent (Michelle) Hostutler, Wendy (Steve) Vojtush, Ty Swarthout, Angela (Kirk) Ritter, Misty (Scott) Clark; grandchildren, Haylee (Alex) Swarthout, Travis (fianc Stephanie) Hostutler, David Wyzynajtys, Jordyn Hostutler, Kagan (Samantha) Hopkins, Walker (Taylor) Hopkins, Tucker Clark, Regan Swarthout, Canon Clark, Brady Clark, Ava Swarthout, Trevor and Kylee Pryson; and one great-grandchild, Mia Swarthout; many nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law, Betty Hostutler, Peggy Hostutler, Linda (Dan) Felske, Paula (Mike) Marker; brothers-in-law, Randy (Pam) Schaefer and Jim (Carol) Schaefer; and close cousins, Charles (Barb) Hostutler and Sandy (Roland) Schram. He was predeceased by his siblings, Don, Duane, Darell, and Jean Hostutler; his aunt and uncle Ken and Margaret Hostutler; and his parents-in-law, Paul and Joyce Schaefer. Memorial services will take place at 6:00 p.m. Friday, December 22, 2017, at W.L. Case & Company 201 N. Miller Road. Pastor Jacob Salem will officiate with military honors by the Michigan State Police, the Marine Corps, and the VFW. Friends may visit with the family from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Disabled American Veterans.
