James Richard Trier Traverse City, Michigan Passed away Thursday, October 24, 2019. Age 89 years. He was born April 13, 1930, the son of the late Arthur E. and Marie (Lemley) Trier. He graduated from Arthur Hill High School, Class of 1948 where he met the love of his life, Beverly Sybil Hasse. They were married August 11, 1951. His wife of 68 years survives him. James was a toolmaker and retired from Helfrecht Machine in 1989 and from National Vacuum Equipment, Traverse City, MI in 1995. He served in the U. S. Navy, Submarine Service during the Korean War. He enjoyed fast pitch softball. He pitched for Submarine Service, they achieved two Atlantic fleet championships and received two letters of commendation from Admiral Crawford. He was inducted into the Michigan Amateur Softball Association Hall of Fame in 2006. Jim served as manager of the Saginaw Bolters and was selected for the Saginaw County Hall of Fame as a Team member and Bay County Hall of Fame as a member of the Bay City Pickle Barrel State Championship team. Surviving besides his wife, Beverly, are two sons, one daughter and their spouses, James and Peggy Trier; David (Robin Hagen) Trier; Michelle and Larry Brefka; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. A son, Mark Trier, a daughter, Cheryl Trier, a grandson, Jason Trier, three brothers, Kenneth, Donald and Marvin Trier have predeceased him. The funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 28, 2019, at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. Rev. Sue Hand will officiate with Military burial in Roselawn Mem. Gardens under the auspices of V.F. W Post #1566. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
