James Russell Hales Saginaw, Michigan Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather went home to the Lord on Sunday, December 18, 2016, at the age of 67. Jim was born on May 30, 1949 in Saginaw to Thomas and Naomi (Paquette) Hales. He was a veteran who served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. Jim married Marsha Dymond on September 21, 1974, who survives him. He was retired from General Motors where he worked for over 30 years. Jim was a member of Swan Valley United Methodist Church, serving as choir director intermittently, and a past member of Saginaw Choral Society. He was an avid fisherman, golfer, card player and singer. Jim sang for many church services, funerals, and weddings, including those of his children. Jim loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a Little League coach and volunteer high school football coach. Jim also volunteered as an official at his sons' high school football games. He was an enthusiastic fan of the Detroit Lions, Detroit Tigers and MSU football. Jim will be missed by his wife and three sons, Christopher (Emily) Hales, Aaron (Pamela) Hales, Joshua (Meghan) Hales; his grandchildren, Jacob, Charles, Grace, Samantha, Katelyn, Andrew, Benjamin, and Julia; his siblings, Barbara Bryant, Betty (Dale) Gillespie, Donald (Sandy) Hales; his sister-in-law, Marion Hales; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was predeceased by his parents, his brother, Thomas Hales, and brother-in-law, Eric Bryant. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 22, 2016, at Swan Valley United Methodist Church. Rev. Rob Richards will officiate with burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens under the auspices of VFW Post 1566. Friends may visit with the family at W.L. Case & Company Funeral Home at 4480 Mackinaw Rd. on Wednesday, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and again on Thursday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
