James Grant Tanner Sr.

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend passed away on July 24, 2024. Age 76 years.

James was born on October 19, 1947 in Pontiac, Michigan, to the late Albert Leroy and Norma Jean (Decker) Tanner. He proudly served his country in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. James married the love of his life, Barbara L. Smith, and together they enjoyed 52 years of marriage. In his free time he enjoyed playing his guitar, listening to blues music, and collecting coins.

James is survived by his wife Barbara Tanner, children: James Tanner Jr., Jodi Tanner, Charles Tanner, and Jessica Tanner (Jason Irish); grandchildren: James Grant III, Hannah Marie, Joshua Scott, Nicholous Washalanta, Lucas Allen, and James Robert; three great-grandchildren, siblings: Gloria, Mary (Aaron), Lyman (Laurie), Steven (Mindy), and Marcus (Tammy).

Along with his parents, James was predeceased by two daughters: Amy Frances Tanner and Jennifer Leah Tanner.

Honoring James' wishes cremation has taken place. A private burial will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider Veterans Affairs.
