Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Toni & Trish House, with his family at his side; at the age of 86 years.
The son of the late Lawrence and Faye (Fetterhoff) Whitteberry, Jim was born on January 17, 1937, in Frankfort, Indiana. Jim grew up on a farm, one of five children. He graduated from Dayton High School with the class of 1955. Jim proudly served in the United States Marines, until he was Honorably Discharged. He married the love of his life, Mary Ellen Crapo, on June 30, 1962; she survives him. Jim retired after 50 years of selling and repairing televisions. He attended First Baptist Church of Bridgeport and Restoration Fellowship Church, Florida. Jim was an umpire of softball for many years throughout the Saginaw area. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, camping, traveling, cruising, and listening to Gospel Music. Above all, Jim cherished the time spent with his family and loved ones, especially playing card games.
Surviving besides his wife of 61 years, Mary Ellen Whitteberry, are two sons, one daughter and their spouses: Jeff and Kris Whitteberry, Janet and Kevin Sessink, Joey Whitteberry; grandchildren: Sara (Dillon) King, Sam Whitteberry, Jacob Sessink, Justin (Erin) Sessink, Joshua (Krista) Sessink, Jared (Amanda) Sessink; great-grandchildren: Roselyn King, Reese and Brynn Sessink, Emery, Amelia, and Aiden Sessink; brother: John and Karon Whitteberry. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. Besides his parents, Jim is preceded in death by Irene (Ed) Hasenleder, Paul (Marge) Whitteberry, David (Betty) Whitteberry; and sister-in-law: Mary Whitteberry.
Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at First Baptist Church, 2400 King Road, Bridgeport, Michigan 48601. Rev. JD Howell will officiate burial to follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. Military Honors will take place under the auspices of the United States Marines and American Legion Post 22. Friends may visit the family from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 7, 2023, at W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road, Saginaw, Michigan 48603 and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church on Saturday.
