Jane Ann Roggen

Roggen, Jane Ann Zilwaukee, MI Jane Ann Roggen, age 97, of Zilwaukee, MI, died peacefully on December 26th at the Caretel Inns assisted living facility in Saginaw. She was born on June 10th, 1918 to the late Joseph and Gertrude (Mahoney) Moskal in Bridgeport, MI. Mrs. Roggen lived in the Saginaw area all her life. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1936 then from Miss Valentine's Secretarial School. Always interested in fashion, Jane modeled the latest styles while working at Winkelman's Department Store. She later worked at Lady Mueller in downtown Saginaw, joining her sisters on buying trips to New York City and returning with top fashions for the store as well as colorful tales of the big city. Mrs. Roggen was a past member of Medical Auxiliary of Saginaw, Lioness Club of Zilwaukee, Secretary of the Recreation Department of Zilwaukee, and the Friends of Saginaw Library. In 1940 she married Altan D. Stalker, who died on April 28th, 1952. She later married Dr. Ivan J. Roggen on December 1st, 1957 who passed away November 28th, 2010 after 53 years of marriage. Jane was an avid reader, especially enjoying I. B. Singer and the Russian authors. She had a gift for sharing hilarious stories, and was always ready to discuss politics. She was an expert homemaker, enjoying cooking, baking, and flower gardening. Her chocolate chip cookies were a prized treat and her welcoming home was the hub of family activity. Jane particularly enjoyed the annual family vacation on the St. Marys River in the Upper Peninsula, a tradition that began in her childhood. Members of the family from all over the country would gather at her cabin throughout the day and evening. None of the grandchildren will ever forget Grandma's candy drawer. She was a special friend to her grandchildren---always interested in their activities, and going the extra step to stay in touch. Her way of making each of us seem so special, her inclusiveness, and her generosity inspire her family at this time of great loss. She was the force that held a large and dispersed family together. Jane was a caring and loving woman with a sharp sense of humor who will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and neighbors. Surviving are three sons and two daughters; Altan C. (Kathy) Stalker of Allen TX, Betty Ann Stalker of Freeland MI, Lynn (Lloyd) Pender of Saginaw, Michael J. (Kathie) Stalker of Annapolis MD, and John I. Roggen of Freeland, MI. She is survived by her sister Lucille (James) Harris of Saginaw, and pre-deceased by her brothers Joseph Moskal and Robert Moskal, and sisters Mary (Clement) Christ, Dorothy (Frank) Mueller, and Helen (Russell) Sarrine. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; Linda (Carl) Pearson, Jane Parr, James Parr, Katheryn (Shannon) Burchett, Altan J. (Amy) Stalker, Meghan (Brian) Wood, Brandon (Becky) Stalker, and Craig (Lorie) Pender, 12 great-grandchildren; Cailee (Zach) Casey, Laura Pearson, Matthew Fox, Dustin Parr, Altan T. Stalker, Rebecca Stalker, Shannon Burchett, Maxwell Burchett, Cooper Pender, Evelyn Stalker, Michael Stalker, Eleanor Wood, and one great-great-granddaughter Cara Casey. Jane will be interred next to her husband at Oakwood mausoleum during a family memorial service. The family would like to thank Dr. Dominador Laynes for the exceptional medical care provided to Ivan and Jane over the course of many years. Also, many thanks to the caregivers at Shattuck Manor assisted living, and Caretel Inns of Tri-Cities for the superb comfort and care they provided. Memorial donations may be made in Jane's name to the Saginaw Public Libraries
