Jean E. Franz

Those who knew and loved her will remember Jean Ellen Franz, ne Sowatsky, as a generous, creative, sentimental lady who was always young at heart. Jean passed away Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2018. She was 82. The daughter of immigrants, Jean was born Feb. 8, 1936, in Saginaw, Michigan, to parents Julius "Juke" Sowatsky and Nora Sowatsky, ne Lodge. She graduated from Saginaw High School and later worked as a dental hygienist for Dr. Kelly in downtown Saginaw. She was also a member of the Saginaw Junior Womans Club. Jean married her sweetheart, Francis "Frank" Franz, on June 6, 1959. Though they were both from Saginaw, Jean and Frank wouldnt meet until they happened to be vacationing in Saugatuck, Michigan, at the same time. They were married for 59 years and had a son, David (Diane) Franz of Lansing, and a daughter, Lynn (Michael) Lockwood of Saginaw. Frank and their children survive her. Jean had an eye for design and sharp sense of style. She was a Michigan State Spartans mens basketball fan and enjoyed shopping and going out to eat with her family and dear friend Pat Paradiso of Saginaw. She invested in the education of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and quietly supported numerous charitable organizations throughout the years. She loved to send and receive greeting cards and kept every one that arrived in her mailbox. In addition to her husband and children, Jean is survived by her grandchildren Heather (Scott) Jordan, Erin Lockwood and her fianc Peter Goodwin, Preston Lockwood, Nicholas Franz and Sarah Franz; great-grandchildren Luke and Adam Jordan; and other family and friends. Jean was predeceased by her parents and brother, Robert Sowatsky. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Public Libraries of Saginaw or Humane Society of Saginaw County. Honoring Jean's wishes cremation has taken place.
