Jean Cummings Richardson passed away on Saturday, February 18th, 2023, at Saginaw Senior Care in Saginaw, Michigan. She was born in Saginaw on April 2, 1933, to Charles H. Cummings and Loretta C. Cummings. She graduated from Saginaw High School and attended Michigan State University. She met her future husband, Robert L. Richardson, Jr., at the law firm where she was employed as a legal secretary. They were married on April 30, 1960.
Jean was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she sang in the Chancel Choir for over forty years and rang with the Bells on High hand bell choir for thirty years. She was also a member of the Junior League of the Great Lakes Bay Region and the Assistance League.
Jean had many interests. She loved to play bridge and to read. She enjoyed the many hours she spent at her computer and shared her skills there with a number of organizations. Her favorite needlecraft was counted cross stitch, but she also liked to knit and to sew. She was fond of baking and shared her seven kinds of Christmas cookies with friends and family. She was happiest when she could help a friend with a problem in any of those areas.
Jean is survived by her three sons, Robert L. Richardson III of South Lyon, Thomas M. Richardson (Karen) of Grand Rapids and Charles C. Richardson of Chicago; her three grandchildren, Meghan Richardson of Chicago and Jared Richardson and Daniel Richardson of Grand Rapids; and her sister, Ann Cummings Smith (Leonard) of Rancho Bernardo, California. She was predeceased by her husband, her daughter-in-law Amy Richardson, her parents, her step-father Frank J. Mueller Sr., and her step-sister and step-brothers, Dixie Mueller Kain, Frank J. Mueller, Jr., Robert Mueller and Jack Mueller.
A funeral service for Jean will take place at 12:00pm on Friday, February 24th, 2023, at First United Methodist Church, 4790 Gratiot Rd, Saginaw, with Rev. Amy Terhune presiding. Visitation will take place on Thursday, February 23rd, at W.L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd., Saginaw, from 3:00-7:00pm, and at the church on Friday from 11:00am until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the First United Methodist Church, the Castle Museum or the Public Libraries of Saginaw.
