Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at Bickford Assisted Living, with her family at her side; at the age of 86 years.
The daughter of the late Victor and Louise (Klenk) Cherry, Jeanette was born on July 6, 1936 in Saginaw, Michigan. She married Jack Douglas on March 23, 1964; he preceded her in death on May 9, 2018. Jeanette “Jan” proudly worked at her mother’s restaurant, the Fairview Lunch. She also served at the Saginaw Country Club prior to serving at Grey Iron Foundry until she retired after 25 years of loyal and dedicate service. She was a proud member of the UAW. She enjoyed socializing with the Red Hat’s Society. Jeanette enjoyed reading books, making floral arrangements, attending musicals, Polka dancing, snowmobiling, concerts, going to casinos and traveling, especially out west to Palm Springs. Her family will forever remember Jeanette for her love and care for dogs, “I never met a dog I didn’t like”. Above all, Jeanette cherished the time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are two daughters, two sons and their spouses: Janine and Ken Bateson, Sheryl and Steve Baker, Cary and Chris Trier, Jack and Tricia Douglas; grandchildren: Cora (Brian) Haddock, Robert Hunter, Nicholas (Fermesk) Trier, Nathan (Kristen) Trier, Natalie (Brent) Fleissner, Grace Douglas, Cale Douglas; grand-dogs: Ms. Parker, Nellie; ten great-grandchildren with one on the way; two sisters: Susan Robnolte, Diana (Frank) Hirschenberger. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Jeanette was preceded in death by her brother: Victor Cherry II; and her beloved dogs: Fefe, Butterball, Lady, Horse, Bridgette, Spotty, Teddy, Jazzy and Gabby.
Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 11, 2022 at W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Road, Saginaw, Michigan 48609. Rev. Fr. Steve Gavit will officiate with burial to follow at St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends may visit the family from 2:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 10, 2022 at the funeral chapel, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Monday at the funeral chapel. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Alzheimer’s Association or a charity of your choice.
