Jerry went peacefully home to his Lord and Savior, on Saturday, February 29, 2020.
Jerry was born in Saginaw, MI on February 7th 1939, to the late Arthur and Gladys (Benjamin) Kackmeister. He remained in Saginaw his entire life. He graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1957 and later served in the United States Army from 1962 to 1964. He loved his country and was a proud veteran. He worked at Saginaw Steering Gear for 35 years until his retirement in 1999. Jerry loved to go polka dancing. Every weekend, when he was younger, you could find him and his friends polka dancing on a dance floor, somewhere across the state of Michigan. It was on the polka dance floor that he met the love of his life Beverly Neumann.
Bev and Jerry married on October 10th, 1970. They were married 49 years and would have celebrated their golden anniversary this coming October. He is survived by his wife Beverly, and daughter, Kristin (Shane) Frost, and granddaughter, Kelsi Frost all of Saginaw, MI. His brothers, Richard (Lanie) Kackmeister of Temperance, MI Tom Kackmeister of Rochester, NY, brothers and sisters in law, Butch and Jan Langley of Freeland, MI and Carol Neumann of Bay City, MI. Several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who he loved to see and spend time with and finally beloved "great grand dog" and best friend Harley.
Jerry was a member of St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church. His faith and his family were his two biggest loves. These two things meant everything to him. He was also an avid fisherman. On many a days in the spring and fall, you could find him fishing on a dock for perch and for the occasional walleye. More than anything Jerry was a die-hard University of Michigan football fan. Every Saturday in the fall, you could find him in his lazy boy watching the Wolverines. He never missed a game, and in his eyes the Wolverines could do no wrong.
In recent years, while his granddaughter was at work during the day, Jerry would spend most of his days taking care of his four legged best friend and "great grand dog" Harley. It was then that an inseparable bond was formed. They enjoyed going for long rides on the days he watched her. Sometimes they would go for two long rides a day. All Harley had to do was look at him just the right way with those big brown eyes and they were off and on another long ride. They always had to stop at 7-11 for some treats. Everybody knew them both there. Jerry and Harley were quite the team.
