Jessie Chavez Jr.

Jessie “Bugs” Chavez Jr. of Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother passed away unexpectedly on Friday, August 14, 2020. He was 65 years old. Jessie Chavez Jr. was born on December 3, 1954, in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Jesse Chavez and Jennie Murillo. He was a proud 1972 graduate of Saginaw High School. Following graduation, Jessie set out to accomplish his dreams, becoming the lead singer of a rock and roll band. He and his band mates eventually formed the group, Banzai. Jessie was a gifted singer, had excellent stage presence, and had the passion and charisma to entertain an audience. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and faithful volunteer as an usher. As a young man, Jessie enjoyed playing softball, basketball, and football; always cheering for his favorite teams, the Michigan State University Spartans and Saginaw High Trojans. He was selfless, generous, and would often do or give anything to family and friends. Jessie had a heart of gold, especially if it concerned any type of animal. Above all, he loved and cherished his pets and family. Jessie will forever be remembered for his excellent sense of humor, for attending and watching his grandchildren play basketball, and for being a beacon of light to those in need.

Surviving are two sons and four daughters: Jesse James Martinez of San Antonio, TX; Tanisha Marie Chavez of Fort Worth, TX; Nicole Renee (Todd) Adkins of Orlando, FL: Kelly Nicole (Kevin) Tripp of Jackson, MI; Krystle RaeAnne (Leonardo Aponte) Chavez of Jackson, MI; Chaz Anthony Chavez of Jackson, MI; eight grandchildren: Gaby Martinez, Jesse Martinez, Broncx Martinez, Alizé Tripp, Shealyn Tripp, Aaralyn Tripp, Siana Adkins, and Caya Chavez; two great-grandchildren; sister, Beatrice (Raymond) Rodriquez of Saginaw; and three aunts: Vera “Rosie” Palomares, Florence Arreola, and Marcelina Murillo.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Jennie Murillo; grandmother, Frances Murillo; three aunts: Alice, Irene, and Nellie; two uncles, Robert and Philip Murillo.
