Whaley, Joan A. Saginaw, Michigan Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, passed away Tuesday morning, March 7, 2017, at home, surrounded by her family, at the age of 86 years. Joan Alice Chiesi was born February 25, 1931, in Saginaw, the daughter of the late John D. and Alice Marie (Demongey) Chiesi. She graduated from Arthur Hill High School with the Class of 1949 and later attended Saginaw Business Institute. She married David H. Whaley on May 31, 1952 in Bowling Green, Ohio. He predeceased her November 21, 1996. She had been employed by Swan Valley School District, where she had been secretary at the Middle School and later the High School for many years. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. She enjoyed bowling and golfing, and her card club. Surviving are four children and their spouses: Daniel P. and Kimberly Whaley, Susan Whaley-Brady and her husband, John Brady, Sheryl Whaley and her partner, Karen Jesselaitis, Renee and Mark Baluha; seven grandchildren, David J. and Rochelle Whaley, Garrett and Alyssa Whaley, Drew Whaley and his partner, Alicia Miller, Matthew and Marinela Brady, Ali Brady, Katie Baluha-Dedafoe and her husband Greg Dedafoe, and Mario Baluha; five great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Greyson, Gannon, Ashton and Myles; several nieces, nephews and their families; and special friends, Eleanor and Warren Campbell. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Denise and Raymond Casey and special friend Kenneth Rice. Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 2017, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 1035 N. River Road. Rev. Fr. Peter Gaspeny will officiate with entombment in Oakwood Memorial Mausoleum. Joan's family will receive friends at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Road, from 2:00 8:00 p.m. on Friday, where a parish vigil service, led by Kathleen Myles, Pastoral Minister, will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Friends and family may then gather at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
