Our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away on Monday, June 13, 2016, age 85 years. She was born on June 21, 1930, daughter of the late John and Grace (Chambers) Fry, in Saginaw. Joan was a graduate of Michigan State University, having earned a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. She married James McGlaughlin on August 20, 1955. He predeceased her on September 26, 1990. She was a lifetime member of Warren Avenue Presbyterian Church. Joan had been employed with the Bridgeport-Spaulding Community School District for many years. She continued her love for teaching children within the church and other preschool programs throughout the city. She was a good and faithful servant to her church and community. Joan was a member of the Saginaw Choral Society and P.E.O. Saginaw Chapter. She displayed her love of the arts, music and culture working with the Dow Event Center.
Surviving are her children, David (Julie) McGlaughlin, Susan (Robert) Dorion and Richard (Vicki) McGlaughlin; her loving grandchildren, Catherina (Cameron) Scott, Elizabeth (Steve) Hare, David McGlaughlin II, Andrew McGlaughlin, Hannah and Colin Dorion, Kaitlyn and Kaleb McGlaughlin; her great grandchildren, Bradley, Haley, Logan, Bradley, Aaliyah and Ellie; her brother, Richard (Barbara) Fry and her sister-in-law, Helen Fry; also many other special relatives and friends. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Thomas C. Fry.
Memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at Warren Avenue Presbyterian Church, 612 Millard Street. Rev. James Williams will officiate. Friends may visit with the family on Friday at the W. L. Case and Company, 4480 Mackinaw Road from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the Saginaw Choral Society.
