Passed away Monday, April 27, 2020 at the age of 89. She was born on March 17, 1931 in Flint, Michigan to the late Ethel (McKinney) Huffman and the late Paul Huffman. Joan grew up on the family farm near Bluffton, Indiana. She graduated from Liberty Center High School and received her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics degree from Purdue University. She taught home economics courses in Eureka, California, at Bridgeport High School, Saginaw High School, and Swan Valley High School, where she developed curriculum for classes in Child Development and Consumer Economics. Joan was married to Paul Baumgartner from July 5, 1953 until his passing in January 2019. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church of Saginaw, singing in the choir for fifty years and playing in the bell choir. She also sang for many years with the Saginaw Choral Society and did volunteer work at St. Luke’s Hospital (Covenant). She and Paul traveled extensively throughout the United States and the world, visiting every continent except Antarctica.
Joan is survived by two sons, Richard Baumgartner (Ann Pierce) and Dean Baumgartner (Becky Stevens); three grandchildren, Sarah (Norman) Bishara, Scott (Nicole) Baumgartner, and Amy Baumgartner; four great-grandchildren, Grace Baumgartner, Theodore Baumgartner, Eleanor Bishara, and Louisa Bishara; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was predeceased by her brother, Robert Huffman.
