Joanne Lois Rosenbaum (nee Westendorf), 80, was called home by her Savior on March 26, 2016, after a lengthy illness. She was born on April 27, 1935, in Thiensville, Wisconsin, the oldest of five children born to Sieghard and Leona (Wacker) Westendorf. Baptized into God's family in 1935, she professed her Christian faith at her confirmation in 1949 at Zion Lutheran Church in Monroe, Michigan. Joanne attended Zion Lutheran School, then Michigan Lutheran Seminary in Saginaw, graduating in 1953. After training for the teaching profession at Dr. Martin Luther College of New Ulm, Minnesota, she taught elementary students at Trinity Lutheran School in Jenera, Ohio; St. John's Lutheran School in Bay City, Michigan; and Peace Lutheran School in Saginaw, Michigan. On June 22, 1958, she married Werner Heinz Rosenbaum of Saginaw. Raising her family and volunteering would become her full-time vocation. She dedicated personal time to her church and its school, St. Paul's Lutheran in Saginaw; to the Pregnancy Counseling Center; to the Martin LutherSaginaw Home (now Saginaw Senior Care and Rehab Center); and to Michigan Lutheran Seminary, in addition to countless personal connections that she made over the years. In addition to helping people and organizations she loved, she was an avid fan of the arts of Saginaw, Bay, and Midland Counties. God blessed their 48-year marriage with four children: David (1959), Kurt (1962), Steven (1964), and Glenn (1966). She was preceded in death by her husband Werner, by her parents Sieghard and Leona Westendorf, and by a daughter-in-law, Renee. She is survived by her sons, David (Jennifer), pastor of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Merritt Island, Florida; Kurt (Brenda), principal of Arizona Lutheran Academy, Phoenix, Arizona; Steven (Carla), principal of California Lutheran High School, Wildomar, California; and Glenn (Mary), pastor of Grace Lutheran Church, St. Joseph, Michigan; seventeen grandchildren: David's children Brandon (Sarah), Brittany (Stephen), and Ryan; Kurt's children Derick and Aaron; Steven's children Nicole (Julius), Brandon, Benjamin, and Luke; and Glenn's children Nathaniel, Elise, Kayla, Erika, Matthew, Matt, Mara, and Adam; one great-grandchild, Sterling; one brother, Daniel (Eunice) Westendorf; and three sisters: Doris (Edgar) Herman, Ruth Westendorf, and Ellen (James) Cammarata. A service of Christian comfort and victory will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Court and Bond Streets, Saginaw. Rev. William Brassow will officiate. Joanne's earthly remains will be interred alongside her husband's at Roselawn Memorial Gardens to await Jesus' return and the resurrection of the dead. The family will receive friends at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, and then at the church from 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday until the time of the service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Michigan Lutheran Seminary, or the Pregnancy Counseling Center.
