Joe B. Owens
Bridgeport, Michigan
Joe Billie Owens was born August 29, 1936, in Bay City, Michigan, and passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2024.
Joe worked for Aetna Cement in the Great Lakes Division of Essrock Material, located in Essexville for 37 years. His last position there before retiring was Plant Buyer and Safety Director.
Joe enjoyed the outdoors and the beauty of the forests and waters that he spent time in over the years as he hunted, fished, and did recreational boating throughout Michigan. He could be found frequenting car lots and auto shows because he was passionate about automobiles and Ford trucks. One of his favorite cars was a 1949 Mercury Club Coupe. When Joe wasn’t out looking at vehicles, it wasn’t uncommon to catch him out in the driveway polishing his own car or truck.
He loved his family, affectionately known as “Papa Joe” and looked forward to the grandchildren coming over and cooking on the grill for everyone. Joe was a good cook and all in the family benefitted from that at family meals. Joe found pleasure in going on bicycle rides and traveling with his dear wife and best friend for 39 years, Anna. Joe and Anna bowled together in their younger years, went on cruises, camped, hit the flea markets, and found joy in just talking and joking together the way best friends who love one another do. Joe loved to play board games and when staying in their Florida home during the winter months, he was a weekly regular on a billiards team that would play against teams from other retirement communities. He enjoyed reading and the Bible was one of the books he read. He believed the Bible’s promise of a resurrection. He will be dearly missed.
Joe is survived by his loving wife Anna (Ott) Owens. Also surviving him are his daughter: Lori Leslie (Daniel); two sons: Scott (Marilyn) and Joseph (Annette) Owens; three stepsons: Terry (Mary), Randy, and Mark Ott. Grandsons: Jared (Emily), Jesse (Quinn), Aaron, Adrian (Amber), Aubrey, and Dylan. His three granddaughters: Amber Hoffer (Arron), Sarah Ott-Dukarski (Jeremy) and Kristen Ott; great-grandchildren: Angelina Haley, Logan, Mason, Hunter, and Leyla Owens. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mason and Bennie Owens, as well as his youngest son, Eric Brian Owens.
