Kapplinger, John A. Saginaw, Michigan John A. Kapplinger, son of the late Charles and Edna Kapplinger, died November 17, 2014, peacefully in his sleep with his loving wife, Virginia, of 61 years of marriage, by his side. He died of natural causes after experiencing two falls. John was 92 years old and a lifelong resident of Saginaw. He graduated from Saginaw High School, the class of 1939. He was a musician and play in Art Noyes band at the Green Mill, Moonlight Gardens and other dinner/dance clubs. In 1942 during World War II, he joined the Air Force, and was commissioned as 1st Lieutenant, was a pilot on C54 cargo planes as well as an instructor of flying C54 planes. After the war, he was in business with his father in Kapplinger Candy Company for many years. John was an avid bowler, named Bowler of the Week for throwing a 300 games more than once. He was a member of the Recreation Bowling Center Team which was State Champions in 1952. John also enjoyed a game of golf or a game of cards with friends. He is survived by his wife, Virginia, his sister Lucille Hazell of Thornhill, Ontario, Canada, and his sister Elaine and her husband, Art Pufford of Sonoma, California, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, and two brothers, George and Edward Kapplinger. A private funeral was held. Burial of his cremated remains will take place at Oakwood Cemetery and Sarasota National Military Cemetery. The family would like to thank all who took part in John's care.
