John A. Maurer

Loving brother-in-law and uncle passed away on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at the age of 86 years. The son of the late John and Elizabeth (Johnson) Maurer was born on March 22, 1931 in Saginaw. He graduated from Arthur Hill High School and Alma College and worked for the State of Michigan Childrens Services. John married Jean Leuenberger on August 28, 1954; she predeceased him on February 22, 2012. John was a member of First Congregational Church. He enjoyed card games, especially poker, gardening, fishing, traveling and most especially spending time with his family and friends. Surviving are his brother-in-law James (Linda) Leuenberger and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his sister, Betty Jo Schapper. A memorial service will take place at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, February 10, 2018 at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral chapel on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the memorial service. Burial will take place at 2:30 p.m. Friday, February 9, 2018 at Oakwood Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider First Congregational Church or Alma College.
