Tagget, John A. "Jack" Saginaw, MI Passed away peacefully at the family homestead on Friday, June 6, 2014, at the age of 78 years. Jack was born April 3, 1936, the son of the late Harvey and Agnes (Benkert) Tagget. He remained a life-long resident of Spaulding Township. He married Judith "Judy" Lovejoy on April 25, 1959 and celebrated 55 years of marriage. Jack was a third-generation farmer, maintaining the Spaulding Township family farm with his oldest son Michael. He was also a lifetime faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church of Saginaw where he graduated from high school-class of 1954. He served on the parish council, finance committee, sang in the church choir and was a lector for many years. From 1955-1958 Jack served our country in the U.S. Army, 10th Division 86th Regiment, as a radio operator for the 1st Battalion Headquarters Co. stationed in Germany. Upon completing his tour of duty, Jack returned to Saginaw where he continued to serve the community by following in the footsteps of his grandfather, Albert Tagget, with a political career. From 1964 to 1974 he served as Spaulding Township treasurer. For an astonishing 30+ years, from 1974 to 1992 and 1996 to 2008, he served as Spaulding Township supervisor. He also served on the Federal Land Bank board of directors from 1971 to 1986 and the Great Lakes Sugar Beet Growers Association board of directors. He was president of the Carrollton Sugar Beet Growers from 1976 to 2002 and the American Sugar Beet Growers executive board from 1988 to 2008 as chairman of the PAC committee. Jack's involvement was instrumental in the formation of the Michigan Sugar Company Co-op and he was a member of the Co-op's initial board of directors. He also served on the Bridgeport-Spaulding School District Scholarship Commission. Jack loved baseball, football, the outdoors, hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and time with family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Judy; three sons and their spouses, Michael and Rosemary (Martin), David, Patrick and Kathy (Rogalski); two grandsons, Jack and Sam; sister-in-law, Karen Hatch; close family friend Dr. Carl Angelo and his beloved springer spaniel Prince. Jack was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law, Marcelyn and Dr. Raphael Castro, of the Dominican Republic; his brother and sisterin-law, Robert and Jeanette; brother-in-law, Ed Hatch; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Carole Bell. The family wishes to thank Daniell and Rachel from Wellspring Hospice for the wonderful care they provided to Jack. Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1525 S. Washington. Fr. Ronald Wagner will officiate assisted by Deacon Roger Pasionek with burial to follow in Spaulding Township Cemetery under the auspices of VFW Post 7542 of Birch Run. Friends may visit with the family on Monday at W.L. Case & Company, 4480 Mackinaw Road from 12:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Friends may also visit with the family on Tuesday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
