    Passed away Sunday May 14, 2023, at Covenant Harrison, at the age of 67 years. John was born April 26, 1956, in Saginaw the son of the late Joseph and Loretta (Cornell) Kokes. He was of the Catholic faith, he enjoyed going to the casino, playing cards. John learned his trade from Ames construction while in high School. John was known as concrete John by various companies in the area.

Surviving is one son, John Kokes Jr.; two sisters; Bernice (Robert) Szczypka, Linda (Richard) Heffel; one brother Michael Kokes; one niece Amy (Matthias) Hagen; two nephews; Jonathan Mosiman, and Daniel Szczypka,

John’s family would like to thank his caregiver Kristi Smith from Area Seven for the wonderful care she gave John. A thoughtful person, John gave the gift of sight by donating his corneas after his passing.

The funeral service will take place 11:00 a.m. Thursday May 18, 2023, at the W.L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel 201 N. Miller Rd. Rev. Peter Gaspeny will officiate with burial to follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00p.m. and then on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider charity of donor’s choice or do a good deed for someone.
