John Charles Skaryd Saginaw, Michigan and Sun City Center, Florida Passed away Saturday, May 12, 2018, at his home. Age 80 years. The son of the late Mamie (Kubinger) and John Skaryd was born March 1, 1938 in Bannister, Michigan. He married Sharon Layman, September 10, 1985. She survives him. John served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. He was employed as a commercial pilot and then in Flight Services with U.S. Government retiring in 1988. Mr. and Mrs. Skaryd owned the building next to the Fordney Hotel on Court St, housing businesses until the fire in 1991. John was an accomplished musician, with the Saginaw Subterranean Strings Club, playing the Hammered Dulcimer and Banjo. They presented the Snow Fest Concerts and Concerts at Haithco Park for twenty years. John worked with the Midland Dulcimer Festival and was a member of the Folk Music Society of Midland, Kings Strings, in Florida and Flint Banjo Club. Mr. and Mrs. Skaryd were very active in dancing groups in Florida. John was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose #82 and the Kings Point Michigan Club in Sun City Center, Florida. Surviving besides his wife, Sharon, are two children. Michael Skaryd; Audra Skaryd and her husband, David Sun; two step-children, Tammy Kaake; Kelly Jo Schmidt and her husband, David; three brothers, two sisters and their spouses, Jerry and Marie Skaryd; David and Yung Cha Skaryd; Barbara Galehouse and Norm Martin; Robert and Linda Skaryd; Mary Sue (Suzie) Skaryd and her fianc, C.T; many nieces and nephews. In accordance with Johns wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at a later date and place to be announce. www.casefuneralhome.com
