John David "Foots" Knippel

Passed away Monday, June 12, 2017, at the Caretel Inn. Age 69 years. The son of the late Mary (Veague) and Russell Knippel Sr. was born June 30, 1947 in Saginaw, Michigan. He was a graduate of Arthur Hill High School, Class of 1966. He served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was a member of the American Legion Post # 439. He was employed by General Motors, Grey Iron Foundry, retiring in 2001 with 30 years of service. He was an avid softball player and enjoyed bowling and golf. Surviving are his faithful dog, Brandi; three brothers, two sisters and their spouses, Russell C. Knippel Jr; Mary Ann and Jimmy Larkin Sr; Kristine and Mike Beechler; Gregory and Kay Knippel; Brian Knippel; a special niece and her husband, Rae Ann (Knippel) and Jim Diedrich; several other nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by a sister-in-law, Judy Knippel. The funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 16, 2017, at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel 4480 Mackinaw Rd. Rev. Jerry Larkin will officiate with Military burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens under the auspices of V.F. W. Post #1859. Friends may call at the Chapel from 2:00-5:00 and 7:00-9:00 p.m. Thursday.
